from_ashes: (the music's between us)
I actually stayed up last night, didn't drink, which is quite a feat for me on a Friday night these days. My Friday was pure hell. PURE hell as I was working on a golf site.

Those of you in Augusta understand that, I'm sure, because the golf fever is on and Masters is almost here (2 days *rolls eyes and groans*). I usually don't get pulled into any golf stuff, but this year, I have a site that I'm working on and will probably be doing overtime work on at the rate it seems. It's just a mess, organized really strangely, has about three servers it hits before each page goes live... it's a mess. And I'm the lucky one to work on it. Shoot me now, please?

Anyway, no zoo for us today. I looked at the forecast and said "Fuck that. If I'm going to be walking around in the zoo, it has to be warm enough for the tropical animals." And it's not. It's barely 60 and they're predicting rain. So they went without us instead. It's just not worth it to me to get out in the cold and rain and get sick. So we're going to have a weekend to ourselves where I can geek out on my new CMS and Will can geek out on Xenosaga 2. And we're going to go see "Sin City" and eat out somewhere at some point. So we still get out of the house.

I watched "Sing Blue Silver" last night for probably the first time in 20 years. And cried. Will, who was surprisingly sweet last night, indulged me, for a change. If you would have told me when I was 16 and had first seen that film that I would have a huge Duran Duran community on the internet (of course, I would've been like "what's the internet?" heh) and would actually have the opportunity to see their reunion (all 5 members, that is), I probably would not have believed it. So here I am, and I'm thinking that my life's not so bad. Yes, it's been a rough few years and I've lost people near and dear to me, but things are surprisingly okay and I'm surprisingly sane. That's quite an accomplishment in and of itself.

At 16, I wanted to go to film school and be the next Russell Mulcahy or get discovered singing and be the next Madonna. At 16, I just knew that somehow I was going to be famous. Truth is, I kinda' like being notorious instead.

Anyway, as always, leave it to Duran to help me put things in perspective. Watching SBS made me realize how special they were and still are. People don't realize the impact they made, they were literally the 2nd coming of the Beatles for those of us who grew up in the 80's. They were our Beatles, not only inspiring us with their music, but also sending our hormones through the roof. They changed things again, and they changed music. And they're still here, trying to do just that.

I know the album sales for "Astronaut" have been low here in the states. Why do I think that's so? Because the record companies are still busily shoving crap down our throats. Ashlee Simpson can have a platinum album and she can't sing a note, and yet Duran Duran, who play their own instruments, have never used pre-recorded tracks and have proved that they have lasting power can barely get to gold album status.

THAT IS SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP. Anyway, those of you who listen to the record companies and corporate-owned radio stations should be ashamed of yourselves. Jessica Simpson is not going to be around in 20 years and is NOT the best thing in music, and neither is all of this other pre-processed shit that's being marketed. It's time that real music came back and it's time that we revolted and stood up for those artists.

Viva La Revolution!

Anyway, I sorta' hope my little side venture can help in promoting artists that deserve it.

You don't have to like Duran Duran's music, but if you've got any sense, you have to respect them.

Yaye!

I have to share. I didn't get the part I auditioned for (no surprise there), but I did get surprised when I was asked to be Stage Manager for the show. The director explained to me the duties and in the end, I said "Why not?" I haven't done that before, sounded like fun.

I'm psyched! And I get to work with a great group of people again in theatre (which I love).

Screw the zoo... we saw "Sin City." I can honestly say that this is almost up there with the Lord of the Rings movies in my book. It was... amazing. It was art and it was beautiful and gruesome, both at the same time.

However, a warning - if you're in anyway squeamish, this is not the movie for you. The violence is MORE than graphic *L*

But it was... yeah.... I hope to see more of the noir films making a comeback now, maybe because of this.
